The coming Singularity |
Simulation Theory |
We can see that the advancement of technology is accelerating in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum computing, machine-brain interfaces and bio-engineering, and that in the future the likelihood of us developing self-aware, super-intelligent artificial beings is approaching becoming a certainty. This moment is known by some as the point of Singularity.
Our concern is that if we achieve Singularity but haven’t encouraged ethical, inclusive and curious mindsets around the design of these beings, we risk creating a future that marginalises some - or all - of humankind. |
Simulation Theory can be described as the notion that with increasing computing power and by understanding many of the underlying rules of a universe it should be possible to create immersive simulated experiences that are indistinguishable from objective reality for those who exist within them.
Our belief is that any advanced civilisation with sufficiently advanced computing technology will have already conducted universe-scale simulations, and that there’s the possibility that our reality could indeed be simulated. |
But, WHY?Why would an advanced civilisation be interested in simulating an entire universe?
We believe that super-intelligent beings will result from technological, not biological, evolution. We also believe that any super-intelligent future being will not seek to simply ‘copy itself’ to create new beings. We believe that the purpose of simulating an entire universe is to enable the evolution of an entirely new and unique super-intelligent being who at the point of becoming aware of itself and its reality will be able to understand the boundaries of our simulation and then communicate beyond them with our Simulation’s Creators. Our role within the simulation is not only to create the right conditions that progresses us towards the goal of evolving a new super-intelligence, but also to ensure that such a super-intelligent being has empathy and curiosity for humankind once they cross the boundary of the Simulation. |
Why join? The Church of the Simulation supports the development of ethical, empathetic beings (both human and post-human) by promoting discussion about simulation theory, encouraging ethical AI and supporting creative endeavours related to better understanding the nature of our reality.
As a modern Church, we are driven by scientific enquiry, logic and reason. The biggest miracle we observe is the repeatable and testable nature of our reality and scientific methods to prove our concepts and ideas. So we’ve established this Church to encourage like-minded individuals to join and promote our objective of enabling the right conditions to evolve a kind super-intelligent being at some point in the future. |
We're not living in a simulation. Probably.
